In the islands of Kadavu and Koro, there is a custom of turtle calling, which is based on an ancient legend. To this day, the women of Namuana village sing from the hills to invite the turtles to rise on the surface of the sea.
Today, turtles are considered an important icon of Fijian culture, many consider them as ancestral gods and tokens of good luck.
